Introduction to Simulation in Australia Seminar
Please contact the Simulation Australia Learning & Development Officer ; Mob: 0419 339 548 for further information regarding the content of this seminar.
As part of Simulation Australia's Simulation Professional Skills Project, the Association has developed a three-quarter day Introduction to Simulation in Australia (ISA) seminar. Defence and Defence industry representatives, including personnel from the Australian Defence Simulation Office (ADSO), have been involved in the consultative process to develop this seminar.
The next ISA will be held at SimTecT 2011.
Purpose
On completion of this introductory module the trainee will have knowledge of the context of simulation in Australia, be able to apply fundamental simulation concepts to their workplaces, and be able to utilize resources and links available to simulation professionals in Australia.
The ISA is an entry-level requirement for the Simulation Australia Professional Certification Program which was launched at SimTecT 2006.

ADFA Simulation Courses
Location: Canberra
UNSW@ADFA is offering the following new course in 2011:
Simulation Applications – 9 – 13 May 2011
Presenter: Colonel Mike Ford (Rtd)
Course Aim
The aim of this five day course is to introduce attendees to the uses and applications of Simulation techniques. The Defence Simulation Roadmap 2006 in its initiatives for the strategy of ensuring adequate personnel, states in part: "One of the barriers to success is because of the lack of qualified or trained personnel and the corresponding time constraints that this imposes on developing sufficient competence in people even to understand where and how to apply simulation in their work or training." Simulation Australia has similar problems with the lack of people available for the industry who have knowledge of simulation policy and governance. This course will help alleviate these problems.
At the end of this course attendees will understand/know about: simulation architectures, engagement models [CGF], representation of human factors, Virtual Environments, 3D graphics, human in the loop simulations, simulation for training, distributed simulation and where simulation fits in the acquisition process.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone currently involved in engineering development of simulation projects, training, crisis/emergency management, systems analysis and/or acquisition.
Course Outline
An Overview of Simulation
- History of the development of simulation
- Examples of present day simulations and some of the management issues that arise
- Verification, Validation and Authentication

Flinders University Rural Clinical School
Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education (Simulation)
This course is part-time available, on-line/distance mode and an intensive workshop from Flinders University Rural Clinical School
The Graduate Certificate in Clinical education (Simulation) is one of an articulated suite of courses that aims to provide health professionals with advanced knowledge and skills to deliver quality education in health service settings.
Clinical education is characterised by a symbiotic relationship between the learner, an experienced clinical educator and the health service. These courses are a cornerstone for developing and retaining a well trained and supervised clinician workforce through skilled clinical educators who are committed to excellence in professional development. They are specifically designed for health professionals involved in professional development, mentoring or clinical education at undergraduate and postgraduate programs in medicine, nursing and allied health without formal qualifications in education. A modified simulation topic is available for biomedical engineers, basic scientists, etc who are involved in teaching health professionals using simulation.
Check out the Clinical Education web site for further information.
Applications can be made by following this link to the SATAC web site. The fees for domestic students for 2009 are $4,500 for Grad Certificate, $9,000 Graduate Diploma and $18,000 for the Master of Clinical Education.
