Invitation to Attend
The Organising Committee extends you the warmest invitation to attend SimTecT 2005
Healthcare Simulation Conference.
Since its inauguration in 2000, the Conference has evolved into a key forum
for simulation in the healthcare industry; bringing together experts in technology,
health care education, human factors, patient safety and quality improvement, to
tackle the challenges faced by the healthcare industry in the new millennium.
The key theme of SimTecT 2005 Healthcare Simulation Conference
is the role to be played by simulation in addressing critical workforce challenges
which now face the delivery of healthcare in Australia. A stimulating and innovative
program of presentations, panel discussions, interactive workshops and
keynote speakers, is in the final stages of planning.
We look forward to seeing you at the SimTecT 2005 Healthcare Simulation Conference.

Abstract Submission Requirements
Use the template provided for all abstracts irrespective of presentation format.
Abstracts must conform to the following requirements:
- Indicate preferred presentation format
(Oral, Poster, Multimedia, Workshop, Ask the experts: research or Ask the experts: training)
- Please select a sub-theme from the list which best describes the content of the
presentation. Indicate this sub-theme in the space provided on the template
- Provide authors’ names (asterisk the presenting author). Include presenting
author’s contact details including institution, address, email, telephone and fax
- Structure the abstract with the headings:
- Title (up to 20 words)
- Aims
- Background
- Methods
- Results
- Conclusions
- References (optional)
- Limit the abstract to a maximum of 250 words
Abstract Submission
Submit your abstract here.
Registration
All presenting authors must register and pay for their attendance at the Meeting.
Abstract Selection
The Organising Committee will review abstracts suitable for presentation, based on content quality
and relevance to the themes of the meeting. Given the limited number of oral presentation places available,
the Committee may determine that some abstracts are better suited to poster rather than oral presentation.
Authors will be advised in writing of acceptance or non-acceptance of abstracts
by Monday 19 September 2005.
Abstracts will be published in the Conference Handbook.
Oral Presentations
Presenters in the “Oral presentation” category will be required to submit their PowerPoint files to the audio
technician on the morning of their presentation.
Presentation Formats
1. Oral Presentations
Authors wishing to present results of original research or report on educational or other projects are invited to
submit in this section. Ten (10) minutes will be allocated for oral presentations with five (5) minutes for questions.
Papers should be presented using PowerPoint projection.
Overheads will not be permitted.
2. Posters
Posters should be 1m x 1m in dimension on laminated cardboard. Authors must attend their posters during the
allocated time to answer questions. The poster should include author and co-authors’ names, a short title,
the name of the institution where the work was carried out, and the following sections:
-
Abstract
- Introduction
- Methods
- Results
- Conclusions and Recommendations.
3. Multimedia
A limited number of presentation booths will be available which are equipped with ac power outlets and tables
suitable for presentation of original multimedia work or simulation devices. Authors must supply their own
computers for these presentations. Presentation of this work will coincide with poster sessions. Please note, this
format is intended for presentation of original work for critical peer review and is not to be used for the purposes
of direct sales.
4. Workshops
A limited number of 90-minute sessions are available for presenters who wish to present small group educational
sessions or conduct workshops.
5. Ask the experts: research I am trying to do
The main aim of this session is to assist researchers wishing to conduct research in one aspect of simulation.
Members of the audience should benefit from shared ideas. Participants are invited to submit abstracts under
this category to present work in progress for discussion among the audience and expert facilitators. The standard
submission template should be used, including aims, background and proposed methods, but it is not expected
that results or conclusions will be included.
6. Ask the experts: training
The main aim of this session is to develop training solutions for identified training needs for specific groups.
Participants are invited to submit abstracts under this category to present work in progress for discussion
among the audience and expert facilitators. The standard submission template should be used, including aims,
background and proposed methods, but it is not expected that results or conclusions will be included.
