Simulation - Improving Capability and Competitiveness In this increasingly outcome and efficiency focused environment, organisations strive to do more, and to do it better. This applies to customers and suppliers alike, in all sectors - including defence, aerospace, mining, construction, manufacturing, transport and homeland security. Our theme "Simulation - Improving Capability and Competitiveness" focuses on the opportunities that simulation provides to understand and improve the way we operate now, and into the future. It encompasses the use of simulation for experimentation and analysis, concept and capability development, system design refinement and validation, process and systems modelling, and in the training of users. The SimTecT 2007 Conference and Exhibition builds on the success of the previous twelve SimTecTs to provide an opportunity for the simulation community to discover the latest research and product advances, and to discuss applications with developers and users. I look forward to seeing you in Brisbane on 4th June 2007 Jawahar Bhalla - Conference Convenor We have made a number of improvements this year to build on the success of SimTecT 2006, including:
We are especially interested in papers that unite theory and practice, providing the industry and its researchers and practitioners with a rich mixture of concepts, ideas and practical applications. Students are particularly encouraged to submit abstracts, and we have substantial Best Paper awards to reward excellence. Dr Elyssebeth Leigh - Papers ConvenorYou can read about the call for papers on this website or download the call for papers in PDF format. Focus AreasSimTecT 2007 is seeking papers from all areas related to simulation, training and modelling - particularly indicating the actual or potential means by which simulation can be used under the theme 'Improving Capability and Competitiveness'. Case studies describing experiences and lessons learned are particularly welcome. Student participation is actively encouraged. The program, keynotes and workshops have been structured to focus on six main areas: Defence
Transportation, Aerospace, Civil Aviation
Homeland Security
Mining / Construction / Manufacturing
Human Factors
Serious Games
SpecialisationsWithin these Focus Areas, the Papers on the following life-cycle oriented specialisations are encouraged:
Presentation FormatsThis year SimTecT offers the opportunity for Poster, or Conference Presentations.Conference PresentationPresenters will have a total of 20 minutes to go through their key points, and are encouraged to make the period as interactive as possible. Acceptance of the paper shall be accompanied by details of speaker requirements, and a Papers Release form. Audio-visual aids will be provided for PowerPoint 2000 for Windows2003 (or equivalent). Computers with CDs shall be provided. Presenters may use their own laptops by special arrangement. While other presentation media will only be permitted with prior arrangement, you are encouraged to engage your audience as much as possible. An optional PowerPoint template is available from the web-site. Any Mining / Construction papers will be presented during the Conference Tuesday - Thursday (the Mining / Construction Symposium is for invited speakers only). PosterAuthors may elect, or the Review Committee may select presentations to be given in Poster format. An area in the Exhibition hall will be set aside for display of posters, or optionally, a computer display (using the author's equipment, and with special prior arrangement with the Conference Organisers). The author will be expected to be available at their Poster position at the designated time(s) to present their work. Conference ProceedingsAccepted Papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings. The Organising Committee is encouraging the simulation community to read and cite the papers by making them freely available on the SIAA's web-site (six months after the Conference), and by allocating ISBN numbers to both the hardcopy and CD Proceedings. Authors will be able to submit papers for formal review in accordance with research council guidelines. This facility is intended for academics and others to whom publishing credits are important. It is not required in order to be eligible for the Best Paper Awards. The Paper Review Committee generously agreed to undertake this formal review. Abstracts for Refereed papers have closed. Best Paper AwardsThe Technical Committee makes two types of awards, Best Paper and Best Student Papers. The recipient of the Best Paper award will be eligible to attend and present their paper at the 2007 I/ITSEC Conference in Orlando, USA with a substantial contribution of up to A$5,000 towards travel and accommodation from the SIAA. To encourage student participation, the SIAA Executive has agreed to make available a number of Best Student Paper awards. The authors of the Best Student Paper will attend SimTecT 2008, or undertake other educational activities, to a value of A$2,000 each, courtesy of the SIAA. Criteria for the Best Paper awards, and the selection process, have been defined so as to be clear and transparent. Download the details, including the Nomination Form. Note that papers do not have to be refereed in order to be eligible for the Best Paper Awards. PapersPapers must be unclassified and must include appropriate copyright, company and/or government clearance. Papers previously presented or published as well as marketing papers will not be accepted.
