Simulation - Improving Capability and Competitiveness

In this increasingly outcome and efficiency focused environment, organisations strive to do more, and to do it better. This applies to customers and suppliers alike, in all sectors - including defence, aerospace, mining, construction, manufacturing, transport and homeland security. Our theme "Simulation - Improving Capability and Competitiveness" focuses on the opportunities that simulation provides to understand and improve the way we operate now, and into the future. It encompasses the use of simulation for experimentation and analysis, concept and capability development, system design refinement and validation, process and systems modelling, and in the training of users. The SimTecT 2007 Conference and Exhibition builds on the success of the previous twelve SimTecTs to provide an opportunity for the simulation community to discover the latest research and product advances, and to discuss applications with developers and users. I look forward to seeing you in Brisbane on 4th June 2007

Jawahar Bhalla - Conference Convenor

We have made a number of improvements this year to build on the success of SimTecT 2006, including:

  • Focus Areas and Specialisations which allow common elements to be grouped together from the broad range of simulation, for a relevant conference experience for delegates
  • A one-day Mining and Construction symposium which will link into other aspects of the conference
  • Introduction of a Posters category
  • Publication of all Abstracts in the Program Handbook which will be a valuable reference
  • Widely distributing the Proceedings by ISBN registration, and open access on the SIAA's web-site, six months after the Conference, to facilitate use of this valuable material by the world-wide simulation community
  • A Partner's Program to encourage presenters to make the most of this opportunity to enjoy the Australian experience.

We are especially interested in papers that unite theory and practice, providing the industry and its researchers and practitioners with a rich mixture of concepts, ideas and practical applications. Students are particularly encouraged to submit abstracts, and we have substantial Best Paper awards to reward excellence.

Dr Elyssebeth Leigh - Papers Convenor

    Presentation Formats

This year SimTecT offers the opportunity for Poster, or Conference Presentations.

    Conference Presentation

Presenters will have a total of 20 minutes to go through their key points, and are encouraged to make the period as interactive as possible.

Acceptance of the paper shall be accompanied by details of speaker requirements, and a Papers Release form.

Audio-visual aids will be provided for PowerPoint 2000 for Windows2003 (or equivalent). Computers with CDs shall be provided. Presenters may use their own laptops by special arrangement. While other presentation media will only be permitted with prior arrangement, you are encouraged to engage your audience as much as possible. An optional PowerPoint template is available from the web-site.

Any Mining / Construction papers will be presented during the Conference Tuesday - Thursday (the Mining / Construction Symposium is for invited speakers only).

    Poster

Authors may elect, or the Review Committee may select presentations to be given in Poster format.

An area in the Exhibition hall will be set aside for display of posters, or optionally, a computer display (using the author's equipment, and with special prior arrangement with the Conference Organisers).

The author will be expected to be available at their Poster position at the designated time(s) to present their work.

    Conference Proceedings

Accepted Papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings. The Organising Committee is encouraging the simulation community to read and cite the papers by making them freely available on the SIAA's web-site (six months after the Conference), and by allocating ISBN numbers to both the hardcopy and CD Proceedings.
