Call for Abstracts - closed on 14
December 2007
This is an invitation to all members of the national and international simulation and training community to submit papers for the
SimTecT 2008 Conference.
Simulation – Maximising Organisational Benefits
"Our theme “Simulation – Maximising Organisational Benefits”
focuses on the opportunities that simulation provides to deliver results
in alignment with organisational objectives – such as an integrated
analysis and communication tool suite for all business units, reducing the
cost of ownership through simulation, or improving the quality of training
and learning. It encompasses the cost-effective use of simulation for
experimentation and analysis, concept and capability development, system
design refinement and validation, process and systems modelling, and in
the training of users.
This applies to customers and suppliers alike, in all sectors —
including defence, aerospace, mining, construction, manufacturing,
transport, homeland security, education and business sectors .
The SimTecT 2008 Conference and Exhibition builds on the success of the
previous twelve SimTecTs to provide an opportunity for the simulation
community to discover the latest research and product advances, and to
discuss applications with developers and users. I look forward to seeing
you in Melbourne on the 12th May 2008."
Jawahar Bhalla - Conference Convenor
"In 2008 we are again using the START papers submission process
and also continuing to use:
- Areas and Specialisations to allow papers with common elements to be
grouped together, providing a relevant conference experience for
delegates
- A poster category for on-going visual display of presenters’ work
- Publication of all Abstracts in the Program Handbook as a valuable
reference point for conference participants
Continuing with the use of an ISBN registration for the Proceedings,
and providing open access to all papers on the SIAA’s web-site, six
months after the Conference. This enables broader access to the papers as
a valuable resource for the worldwide simulation community We are
especially interested in papers that unite theory and practice, providing
the industry and its researchers and practitioners with a rich mixture of
concepts, ideas and practical applications. Students are particularly
encouraged to submit abstracts as an opportunity to share their emergent
ideas and research goals with a large and well-qualified audience. There
are substantial Best Paper awards to reward excellence."

Presentation Formats
SimTecT offers the opportunity for Poster, or Conference Presentations.
Conference Presentation
Presenters will have about 20 minutes to go through their key points,
and are encouraged to make the period as interactive as possible. The total
time allocated for each paper (including moving in / out, introduction,
presentation, Q&A) is 30 minutes.
Acceptance of the paper shall be accompanied by details of speaker
requirements.
Audio-visual aids will be provided for PowerPoint 2000 for Windows2003 (or
equivalent). Computers with CDs shall be provided. Presenters may use their
own laptops by special arrangement. While other presentation media will only
be permitted with prior arrangement, you are encouraged to engage your
audience as much as possible. An optional PowerPoint template is available
from the web-site.
Poster
Authors may elect, or the Review Committee may select presentations to be
given in Poster format.
An area in the Exhibition hall will be set aside for display of posters, or
optionally, a computer display (using the author's equipment, and with special
prior arrangement with the Conference Organisers).
The author will be expected to be available at their Poster position at the
designated time(s) to present their work.
Conference Proceedings
Accepted Papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings, if the
presenter registers for the conference by the required date. The
Organising Committee is encouraging the simulation community to read and cite
the papers by making them freely available on the SIAA's web-site (six months
after the Conference), and by allocating ISBN numbers to both the hardcopy and
CD Proceedings.
