Special EventsSpecial Presentation: RAN/USN Naval Distributed Training In The Pacific For Maritime Dominance - Monday 15 June 1630-1730RADM Russell Penniman IV The Royal Australian and United States Navies currently are the leaders in distributed Naval training through out the Pacific region. The current Naval Continuous Training Environment allows up to eight countries to train simultaneously in a shared battle space on actual equipment. This presentation will cover the world-wide Naval network, advancement in M&S technologies, and current and future capabilities to train to Naval skill sets. Special Presentation: Defence Distributed Training - Tuesday 16 June, 13301430WGCDR Elvis Costello, RAF UK MILITARY personnel are using pioneering technology to target the Taliban from an airbase in Lincolnshire.Soldiers and aircrew are teaming up on the latest mission training devices at the Air Battlespace Training Centre (ABTC) at RAF Waddington to simulate the kind of operations they will undertake when they deploy to Afghanistan. And now the scenarios they are put through are more realistic than ever before thanks to the introduction of a new database into the system. Our previous software could only represent terrain similar to that in Afghanistan, said Wing Commander John Elvis Costello, Officer Commanding the ABTC. This new system which recreates accurately the actual conditions RAF aircrew and soldiers will operate in when they deploy, gives our training a whole new dimension of realism. Aircrew from RAF Tornado Squadrons, and soldiers from the Royal Artillery, who are due to deploy to Afghanistan this year, are using the equipment at the RAFs Air Battlespace Training Centre (ABTC) to get the best possible preparation they can. The Distributed Synthetic Air Land Training system enables pilots to fly simulated missions in support of soldiers in contact with computer generated enemy forces on the ground. The ABTC contains simulators for the Typhoon, the Tornado GR4, AWACS early warning aircraft, and the AH-64 Apache helicopter. The simulators can also represent the effects of Harrier GR9, A-10 Tankbusters, F-16 fighters, Hercules C-130 transport aircraft and support helicopters. WGCDR Costello has completed Staff tours as the RAF Air Defence Trainer at HQ Strike Command, and more recently spent 2 ½ years in the UAE setting up and developing the Middle-East Air Warfare Centre. He was the White Force Leader running the Advanced Tactical Leadership Course at Abu Dhabi training Mission Commanders from the RAF, USAF, UAEAFAD, QEAF, RSAF, GAF, FAF and PAF flying in packages of up to 40 aircraft. Elvis took over command of the RAFs Air Battlespace Training Centre in the UK at the beginning of 2008 where they are currently using synthetic and constructive computer generated forces to train warfighters in preparation for operations in Afghanistan.
The SIAA is grateful to QinetiQ Consulting for sponsoring the travel of WGCDR Costello. Panel Session: Common Issues in Introducing Simulation into an Organisation - Thursday 18 June, 08301000AimTo introduce participants to simulation issues which are common to most industries, and to discuss them in an interactive manner to capitalise on the varying levels of experience. FormatA panel made up of representatives from the various sectors:
Each panelist will briefly introduce the state of the use of simulation in their sector, and their current major issues. The facilitator will group these issues together, and ask for comments and questions from the panel and the audience. The Panel members are:
ContentIssues covered include:
PC Serious Games CafιDrop into a special part of the Exhibition area where PC "Games" are used for serious purposes. It is hosted by the Army, and organised by Robert Carpenter. ![]() The Serious Games Cafι is sponsored by Xenon Systems. ShipSimDesktop bridge simulation program like you have never seen before. It teaches the basics right up to multi-player capabilities. Millpond to conditions to an Atlantic storm. Drive a water taxi up to a super tanker. Integrates with real hardware, such as charting and navigation systems, and can be used in full mock-up simulators (Saudi Arabian Navy have recently bought one). Tactical Language and Cultural SoftwareCome and have a go at improving you cultural and language awareness of Iraqi, Dari, Pashto or French. A mix of e-Learing, and computers games linked to a sophisticated natural language processor. VBS2Come and play for yourself this powerful and commonly used tool in militaries around the world. VBS2 delivers a robust virtual environment to a range of day to day problems that is only limited by the trainer's imagination. SteelBeasts ProLike tanks? SteelBeasts delivers. 3D interiors, authentic representations of
fire control systems and sophisticated ballistics and behind Armour effects...
Add in an impressive constructive simulation and you can hand individuals to
brigades in a seamless virtual-constructive environment.
Site VisitsThis year the SimTecT 2009 Organising Committee has arranged two interesting site visits: Delegates will be transported from the Convention Centre to and from each venue, and then to the airport. All site visits are subject to a minimum number of ten (10) persons.
SV1. South Australian Virtual Reality Centre (SAVRC)Maximum Numbers: forty (40) persons Duration of visit: 2 hours The SAVRC is a facility for high-end visualisation and supports stereoscopic display via active shutter glasses, an immersive folded-screen wedge environment, as well as standard monoscopic projection. A number of software tools and visualisation demonstrations in the mining, oil & gas, scientific and healthcare fields will be demonstrated. The SAVRC is located on the ground floor of the Santos Petroleum Engineering Building on the University of Adelaide campus, North Terrace. Approximate arrival to the airport will be at 1600 and Adelaide Convention Centre at 1615. SV2 Advanced Air Defence SimulatorMaximum Numbers: thirty (30) persons Duration of visit: 1.5 hours The Advanced Air Defence Simulator consists of a 12.5-metre diameter dome, an RBS70 (missile) Weapon System facsimile and a recording and debriefing system. An RBS70 Detachment consisting of the Commander, Operator and Loader take post at the facsimile in the centre of the dome. The simulator displays multiple realistic aerial targets, allowing for a full engagement sequence to be performed in simulated weather, light and battlefield conditions including noise. Approximate arrival at the airport will be 1630, and at the Adelaide Convention Centre at 1645.
Social FunctionsIncluded in your SimTecT conference full registration fee is the Welcome Reception and the Conference Dinner. Golf Challenge - CANCELLEDEach year, the SimTecT Organising Committee hosts a golf challenge to kick off SimTecT Conference.
